Description

Black and white image of Rahelty Castle, a large tower house with rounded corners. Once the property of the Purcells of Loughmoe and described in the Civil Survey (1656) as a castle out of all repair. The tower house is four stories high and stood in a circular enclosure, now gone. The Archaeological Survey of Co. Tipperary V1. considers this the probable remains of a bawn wall. Mid 20th century
