Description
A black and white photographic image of the Hospital of the Assumption, Thurles. Originally the union workhouse it was built in 1841-2 to a standard design by George Wilkinson to accommodate 700 inmates. The building became a county home and hospital on the abolition of the workhouses in the 1920s. The buildings were demolished in 2004 to allow construction of a modern hospital on the site. 1987
