Black and white image of Edmond Murphy wearing the khaki cloth armband with a red crown introduced by the Derby scheme. The armband was worn with civilian clothes by men who had formally attested for Army service. The scheme was introduced in October 1915 by Lord Derby, Director General of Recruiting. 28 April 1916
