Gaile National School Records

Title

Gaile National School Records

Subject

National school records from Gaile NS.

Description

A collection of records from Gaile NS. The National School at Gaile was established on 3rd September 1900 and was built by a contractor from Littleton, John Purcell on land leased from the Phillips family of Gaile. It was a slated building divided into two rooms with the Senior classroom being 23’ x 20’ and the Junior room which opened off the main classroom being 15’ x 15’. In 1951 a new two room schoolhouse, the current Gaile school, was built beside the old school grounds and the original school was vacated.
The records include the boys register from 1911 – 1925 and the girls register book for 1900- 1925 and were kindly loaned for digitisation by the school. Early registration books list the parents profession as well as listing any previous school attended by the child. This can be useful in tracing family history and movement of families in the late 19th century
