Description

A collection of documents relating to Seamus O'Duibhir/ James O'Dwyer ( 12/10/1891 - 28/10/1949) of Cashel during the revolutionary period 1918 - 1922. Born in Knockavilla Seamus moved to Cashel at 18 to work in his uncle, Con Dwyer's drapery business at 34 Main Street, Cashel. Seamus was finance officer for the Cashel area during the Sinn Féin election of 1918. During the War of Independence he was an intelligence officer for the Dundrum/Cashel group of the 3rd Tipperary Brigade in which his brother Tadgh O'Dwyer was also an active member. The collection includes material relating to the 1918 election as well as a file of supply orders for Battalion 2, 3rd Tipperary Brigade. This material was discovered in the basement of No. 34 by his son Séan O'Duibhir who kindly loaned it for digitisation.
